Sigur Rós' 2008 album is another contender for the top albums of 2008. Another stellar release from an ever-consistent band. "Ágætis Byrjun" was my introduction to them, and is as good a place as any to start. Perhaps "Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust" is actually better to start with, as it's probably the "poppiest" of the albums. "Hvarf-Heim" is a great two-disc release - one disc being previously unreleased material, and the other an acoustic set of some of their classic songs. Definitely recommended for those interested in atmospheric, Post-Rock-like music that makes great use of dynamics with quiet moody spots matched with awesome crescendos. Check it out.

Plot :

At the dawn of the new millennium, Japan is in a a state of near-collapse. Unemployment is at an all-time high, and violence amongst the nations youth is spiralling out of control.

With school children boycotting their lessons and physically abusing their teachers, a beleaguered and near-defeated government decides to introduce a radical new measure: the Battle Royale Act.

So, 42 students find that their field trip is not a field trip at all. They are the teenagers who have been randomly selected and forced onto an isolated island, where they are each equipped with food, water, a map and a random weapon.

On the island, they have to compete in a violent death match - murdering each other - until only one single victor remains. Failure to follow the rules or participate in the “game” results in execution by an exploding collar everyone is forced to wear.

The “winner” will be allowed to return, as the ultimate symbol of the lengths to which the government is prepared to go to curb the tide of juvenile disobedience.

Plot :

Aladdin is a street-urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. Under the orders of the evil Jafar (the sultan's advisor), Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafar's plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a "diamond in the rough" can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin might fight that description, but that's not enough to marry the princess, who must (by law) marry a prince.

The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) flew on her non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's (Jon Bernthal) rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket from Happy Days, the still from M*A*S*H and Archie Bunker's lounge chair from All in the Family. After stealing a security guard's ID badge, Larry (Ben Stiller) slips into the Archives of the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other. Larry enlists the help of Amelia Earheart, who he develops a romantic interest in, and together they try to put everything back in order.

He discovers a man who can pursue his dreams and ends up getting a record with the boys. Shortly after that, he was on a short tour, promoting his songs, and meets the already famous and beautiful June Carter. Then as they get on the long-term tours with June, the boys, and Jerry Lee Lewis, they have this unspoken relationship that grows. But when June leaves the tour because of his behavior, he was a drug addict. His marriage was also falling apart, and when he sees June years later at an awards show, he forces June to tour with them again, promising June to support her two kids and herself. While the tour goes on, the relationship between June and John grow more,and his marriage to his first wife ends. June finds out about the drugs, and help him overcome it. True love and care helped John eventually stop the drug usage, and finally proposes to her in front of an audience at a show.

ENVY coming to MALAYSIA!!!!!

Soundscape Records is proud to presents a one night only performance by Japanese band "Envy" on 11th July 2009.

Since their formation in 1992, Envy (エンヴィ) has become a dominant band in the independent hardcore and screamo scene in Japan. Their music has evolved over the years to incorporate hardcore, screamo, and most recently, the epic tendencies of post-rock.

Envy is characterized by their ability to master screamo’s loud-soft dynamic to evoke both crushing brutality and gentle beauty, often within the same song. Much has been made of vocalist Tetsuya Fukugawa’s own skill at commanding this dichotomy and thusly their live shows have grown in legend over the years.

The band is also noted for their deep and poetic lyrics.
The band has become increasingly popular among the post rock scene in the last few years for their incorporation of Mogwai-esque sound and composition dynamics into more traditional screamo songs.

This new influence can be most easily identified on their last three releases, “All The Footprints You’ve Ever Left And The Fear Expecting Ahead” released by Dim Mak, ”A Dead Sinking Story” released on Level Plane and “Insomniac Doze” released on Temporary Residence Limited.

The band has since become friends with Mogwai and vocalist Tetsuya Fukagawa was featured on a track from Mogwai’s 2006 album “Mr. Beast.”

In March of 2006, it was announced that Envy had signed to Temporary Residence Limited for American distribution of Insomniac Doze (though it was released by Mogwai’s Rock Action label in Europe and Envy’s own Sonzai Records in Japan).
